At left you see my children's posed by the Hot Dog who stands daily before Plath's Smoked Meats. He's a photo op NOT to be missed. Our little log cabin is located near Rogers City, and that's where we go for groceries, library books, and an ice cream cone at the Pavillion on Lake Huron Harbor.
It was a truly relaxing vacation; a lot of reading, fishing, siting in a lounge chair ans watching the sun on the lake, bonfires at night. A fascinating thing happened- we were far from electonic gadgets-cell phones, computers , even regular old phones. (The TV gets one station with a minimum of static, so we call it "turning om the channel" rather than "watching TV. ) In the dearth of electronic stimulation my 13 and 14 year old started coloring in coloring books! Wow, how low tech can you go? God bless crayola and the lure of the 64 pack! I must admit I colored a page or two as well.
And now that we're home it's astounding how things have grown! The field surrounding our house thi9s year is corn, and we are suddenly surrounded by the way coolest privacy fence ever! morning glories are climbing, oregano and lemon balm went on a relentless charge, wrestling control of our garden and making the thyme go on a retreat. I need to get out there and bring the herbs to submission.
Remember in Spring when the tall grass across the road was burned back?
